The World Wrestling Federation has become a prime target of the Parents Television Council, a group of has-been Hollywood assholes who just have beef with the industry for not hiring them. Other targets include the Howard Stern Show and the cartoon show "Captain Planet and the Planeteers."
This targeting is done by a group of people who, for your donation, will make commercials to blast the makers of what they deem to be offensive television programming and proclaim themselves a group who knows what's best for you and your families. They are also demanding that people send letters to the sponsors of the World Wrestling Federation and request they end their ties with the organization.
Under increasing pressure from this group, several advertisers have pulled their ads. And yes, the WWF has people lined up for advertising spots, but it's just the nature of the matter. These people are using bullying tactics and propaganda to further their cause, which just isn't cool with me.
Simply, this is censorship. This isn't merely a WWF vs. PTC battle. This is a battle to ensure that the rights people have fought for for hundreds of years aren't infringed upon. Everyone has the right to judge what is offensive to them, and do not need a so-called "council" to do so for them.
And, in my support, I offer this page, with links where you can find addresses to contact the organizations involved. I urge you to write to the WWF's sponsors and tell them you appreciate their continued sponsorship. And, you might also want to voice your opinion to the PTC. There are also some who are forming boycotts against companies who pulled their ads.
But, in any case, remember that showing a level of intelligence best bet. Yes, you might want to mail them something with a trail of insults and swearing, but it won't get you anywhere, and they're less likely to take the wrestling fan population as a whole seriously. We want them to know that we all aren't imbeciles and actually are serious about the situation.
