Hey Yo fans, time to update these here pages... (8/16/2000)

Hello, welcome to the Yo-Yo Tweak zone. As you might guess by the name "tweak" this site is dedicated to those who wish to explore and understand, and lastly "tweak", the performance potential of their yo's.

I've been seriously yoing since the summer of 98. I consider myself to be somewhere between intermediate to expert. My strong tricks are: Trapeze mounts of all types, and Shoot-The-Moon, of which I hold a personal record of 1374, using my Cherry Bomb. After months of work, I've mastered the one hand loop. Presently I'm up to 300, and a record of 1103(!) with a fishing swivel, using my RBII with an ABEC3 bearing. And now I'm working on two handed. It's as frustrating as when I first started working on one handed loops, but in a different way. The biggest problem I have is keeping the loops syncronized between my left and right hands. My right hand is so powerful compared to my left hand that in no time I end up with the loops in sync, as opposed to alternate sync. I'm also trying to get punching bag, I can do vertical punching bags all day; but when it comes to horizontal -- forget it. For more dtails on my trick history, check out the tricks page; maybe it'll give you a few clues that may help you learn quicker. Then again maybe you'll need to struggle painfully though the learning curve just like me. :-)

My Yo arsenal:

  • 4 Yomega RBII's ( I do 90% of my yoing with them)
  • 1 Yomega Metalic Missile ( Won it at a Yo Contest -- first place senior advanced division.)
  • 1 Yomega Saber Raider
  • 1 Yomega Strobe Yo
  • 1 Tom Kuhn SB-2 Gold Anodized
  • 1 Team Losi Cherry Bomb
  • 1 Team Losi(?) X-Games Yo
  • 1 Renegade
  • 1 Yomega Hyper Warp
  • 3 Yomega Raiders
  • 1 YoYoJam Spin FaKtor
  • 1 YoYojam Super SinFaktor
  • 1 YoYojam Ninja
  • 1 Duncan Ballistic

NOTE: I've upgraded all the bearings in the Yomega's to ABEC3 bearings.

Having been a tweak in all my other interests, I decided that a page dedicated to yo tweaking is a logical step. Allot of this inspiration also came from recurring subject matter in the alt.sport.yo-yo news group. Lots of good and interesting exchanges were made on the performance and function of yo's, including lubes, transaxles, bearings and mods. Enough to warrant a dedicated resource for those who take their yoing and yo-yo's seriously. So bookmark this page and refer to it when you need to understand exactly how your yo works, and how to make it work better.
