Perdue is Worth His Price

The word is that Peter Holt did not like paying Will Perdue $4.2 mil. Granted, Perdue is a bench player, but does Holt really know the going price of a seven-footer who can play?

Let's take a look at other bigmen in the league such as Antonio Davis and Dale Davis. Most teams around the league would love to have either and you never hear that these guys are overpaid.

Taking a look at their numbers, we find Dale Davis this season has 8 points per game, 8 rebounds per game and 0.7 blocks in 26 minutes per game. He makes $5.3 mil to do this. Antonio Davis for $4.5 mil gives you 9 ppg, 7 rpg and 0.7 blks in 26 minutes.

Perdue gives you 4 ppg, 5 rpg and 0.3 blks in 15 mpg. A few of you may say that Perdue isn't the player these two guys are but they both give you all the hustle, rebounding and defense you can ask for.

If you take a look at their projected 48-minutes per game productivity (I know they wouldn't get these numbers if they played 48 minutes, but it gives you an idea of how effective they are in their time played), their stats are very similar. Dale Davis 15 ppg, 15 rpg and 1.3 blks. Antonio Davis 16.7 ppg, 13 rpg and 1.3 blks. Will Perdue 13 ppg, 16 rpg and 1 blk. Perdue's numbers are very similar to those of the Davis boys at a little lower of a price.

Peter Holt needs to realize that this is the going price for bigmen. For what he gives to the team, Perdue is worth his $4.2 mil and, by all means, should be resigned by the Spurs next year.
