Spurs News, Notes and Quotes D avid Robinson recently donated $5 million dollars towards an education and arts complex at the Carver Community Cultural Center. David Robinson is the highest paid Spur, earning approximately $11 million dollars a season. T he Spurs, by virtue of winning their first-ever NBA title, will represent the United States in the 1999 McDonald's Championship in Milan, Italy. Asia will be represented by Sagesse of Lebanon, Lega A champion Varese Roosters will represent Italy, Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania) will represent the EuroLeague, the Adelaide 36ers will represent Australia's NBL, and Brazil's Vasco da Gama will represent the South American Basketball Club League when the tournament tips off in October. O ur thoughts go to Sean Elliott who announced recently that he needs a kidney transplant and could have played his last game for the San Antonio Spurs. A fter winning the second game of the finals the Spurs broke the NBA record for the longest ever playoff winning streak (12). They took the record from the 1989 Los Angeles Lakers. M ichael Jordan predicted that the Knicks would win in six games. What does MJ know about winning NBA championships though? S teve Kerr has the award for the quote of the finals... "All those years everybody claimed it was Pippen and Jordan taking the Bulls to the Finals, but I think it's pretty obvious it was Kerr and Perdue." K evin O'Keefe reports that a current Spurs player (who requested anonymity) told him: "That's the only bad thing about what we've done, securing Pop's job.
