Hey Spurs Fans,
I'll keep my column short and sweet.
What a tough-minded, determined bunch of Spurs we have marching to the conference finals. These "Hard" Spurs are not getting much credit however in California. The focus here seems to be how the Lakers made more mistakes to give the series away than the Spurs were to earn the wins.
People out here believe that, man by man, the Lakers had more talent than the Spurs. I do not believe this to be true as San Antonio dominated in every category from the starting five to the bench.
One XTRA-am radio host, Chris Ello, predicted before game 4 that the Lakers would lose the series to just a "good" team, one of a handful of good teams remaining. In his opinion, only the Pacers were playing Championship quality basketball.
I think Ello is just upset his beloved Lakers were so thouroughly outplayed it what would be the last meaningful games in the history of the fabulous Forum.
Chick Hearn, famous LA announcer for the Lakers, did give credit to San Antonio for taking Shaq, Kobe, Glen and the gang out of both games and LA and wished them well in the next round.
In closing, Mike Lupica of the NY Daily News said on "ESPN Sports Reporters" in Early February that No team from Texas would win the NBA title.
Does he care to retract his statement?
Supossing If San Antonio were to play his Knicks in the Finals, I wonder what he would write if the Spurs win it all?
How about R-E-S-P-E-C-T? or CHAMPIONS from Texas!
That's it... I am still hoping for and all ABA Final between our heroes, the Spurs and the Pacers..... See you after Game 1!
