Being in LA Tuesday a day after the Spurs win in Game 1, all of the LA Fans were crying that the biggest baddest Shaqzilla in all the land was being man-handled by the stifling defense of the Spurs. The near 60% field goal percentage of Shaq was down lower than his old number in Orlando #32. Shaq shot 31.6% in game 1. Shaq vows that he will be more ready to take matter in his own hands come Wednesday.
Speaking of #32, Sean Elliott was called an "unsung hero" by the LA Times. Although Sean only scored 10 points on offense, it was pointed out that Kobe Bryant was forced by Sean's "D" into more turnovers than assists (7-6). Bryant was also pulled out of important stretches in the 2nd half by Kurt Rambis because of his trying to do too much. Hooray for Sean!
As far as the noncalls or foul calls, the refs called it both ways. In the 1st quarter, Elliott drove to the basket twice, was hacked on both drives. No foul was called on either drive even though a national photo of Elliott being fouled by Sean Rooks was circulated in many newspapers.
Jim Rome, Radio host of the Jungle on XTRA Radio in LA and syndicated across America, has stated that he believes the NBA Finals winner will be from this Series. "Sorry Blazers and Jazz Fans, the winner will come from LA-San Antonio."-Jim Rome
David Robinson would like to see the Spurs approach Game 2 with more focus than shown against Minnesota before Game 2 which Sa Antonio subsequently lost. Spurs Fans will probably be over 30,000 strong to root the team on.
NBC Television had requested that Games 3 and 4 be played Saturday AND Sunday, so that its "glamour" team, the Lakers will get more national exposure. NBC executives hope for a Knicks-Lakers Finals. Personally, I would love to see the Indiana Pacers play our beloved Spurs! MAY THE ABA RISE UP AGAIN and the Finals be played with the red-white & blue ball!
