Malik Rose has to be the top runner for Most Improved Player. Who else has improved as much as Malik? The San Antonio Spurs work horse, has had a hard work ethic, ever since he was a college player at Drexel.
"He is the hardest working player on our team"; Spurs Coach and General Manager Gregg Popovich has said about Malik, who may not win Most Improved Player due to his status in the NBA of being under rated. He just goes out there and does his job, and works hard for the Spurs to win. He has to be Most Improved Player, but of course Malik gets over looked in San Antonio, by another candidate to be an award winner; Tim Duncan, who is in contention for the Most Valuable Player Award.
Malik is an outstanding player, who the Spurs can hopefully sign a long-term deal to. He would be a compliment to Duncan's game, when some of the older players start to retire. He will provide needed rebounding and energy, just like he is doing this season, giving San Antonio a spark off the bench.
Allen Iverson and Joe Smith have been mentioned as leading candidates for Most Improved Player. Those guy's were number one draft picks, all they are finally doing is living up to their potential. Malik is a guy that trained hard to make it to the Charlotte Hornets roster, then increased his work habit, by knowing he could compete in the NBA, by signing last season with the Spurs. He didn't want to stay on the bench all the time and worked even harder to get where he needs to be today. A premier bench player, who you have to respect, because with his hard work and dedication, he will beat you.
A 6-7 Forward, Rose is not afraid of anyone. He will bang bodies with Shaq who is 7-1 and nearly ways double of what Malik does. He is a fiery competitor, and he deserves the respect that this trophy would give him.
NBA award voters should vote Malik Rose as Most Improved Player. He is the ultimate competitor, and no one comes close to improving as much as he has from one season to the next in the NBA right now. It would have to be a "no brainier" for Rose to win this award.
