6/16-6/18 Our overnight trip to Norfolk's Waterside to participate in OPSAIL 2000 was a great success. We had 2 boats raft up for the entire weekend. Seven scouts enjoyed the weekend long celebration of sail.
4/30/00 Day sail to Norfolk Navy Base. Watched the Air Show. Sailed back to Ft Monroe in time to see USS Truman pulling in from their recent cruise.
3/25/00 The day trip to Waterside was a great success. We had 15-20 Knots all day. Upwind over, downwind back. Valuable helm time was obtained. 2 hour port of call in Norfolk. Man overboard drills on the way back. Could not have planned nicer weather.
2/26/00 Our day sail from Ft Monroe to Waterside, Norfolk was postponed to a future date due to the foggy weather. We meet at 7:00 am and prepared the boat for our trip. We were hoping the fog would lift. At 10:00 we poked our head out into the Hampton Bay. Visibility continued to deteriorate. At 10:30 we called the trip off and headed back toward Old Point Comfort, which at that time was completely obscured by fog.
2/19/00 Maintenance work party onboard Magpie.
2/6/00 Day trip and tour. We left Fort Monroe and sailed Magpie over to the Norfolk Naval Station. On the way over we practiced Man overboard drills. Then we toured the USS Hampton Nuclear Submarine. We had lunch onboard and recieved piloting lessons from the Quartermaster. The weather was nice and the crew of the USS Hampton was very hospitable.
