The race HQ is Thames Tradesmen's Rowing Club, which is based at the Chiswick Boathouse. Access is from the A316 turning East at the traffic lights on the north side of the bridge, passing Tideway Sculler's boathouse and following the road, over the 'sleeping policemen', until the road turns by the Chiswick Boathouse.
1. SAFETY: the river will not be closed to other river users. Keep close to the side when going against the current, midstream towards starboard when with it. The Tideway can be hazardous, especially in windy weather; if you capsize warn following scullers and try to reach the towpath (Surrey) bank with your capsized craft where the water will be shallower at the time of the race; rescue launch will be on the course.
2. The organisers accept no responsibility for any damage, loss or injury, however caused.
3. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT: Competitors may not race until the fee has been paid. Non-registered rowers must buy a day ticket in addition to the race fee.
4 RACE NUMBERS: can be collected on the day of the race from TTRC from 10.00am. The plastic number should be worn on the racing vest on the Bow of each crew. The numbers must be returned at the end of the race to TTRC. A £ 5 deposite is required.
5. CHANGING AND BOATING: there are ample facilities at TTRC.
6. MARSHALLING: Crew no. 1 will wait downstream of Chiswick Bridge near the Surrey Bank, bows pointing upstream; other crews will line up in order downstream of the first crew. You must be in position by 2.15pm. At 2.30pm the start Marshall will instruct crew no. 1 to turn around the buoy, followed by no 2 and so on and proceed towards Chiswick Bridge to the starter positioned about 50m above the bridge. Crews will be started at approx 15 second intervals. Failure to comply with the instructions of the marshals will incur time penalties or exclusion from the race at the Umpire's discretion.
7. RACE REGULATIONS: Keep generally to mid-stream, taking the centre arches of all bridges. Crews being overtaken must give way. Timing will be from the downstream side of Chiswick Bridge to the upstream side of Hammersmith Bridge. Crews must not easy until well clear of the finish. Time penalties may be imposed for bulking or interference. ARA RULES OF RACING WILL APPLY.
8. PRIZES: The winners of each division will be awarded Pint Pewter Tankards, provided there are 3 entries in that division. The results will be announced and prizes presented as soon as possible after the race.
Refreshments and a bar will be available at TTRC.
