Welcome to the Brisbane Badminton Association
The 2000 Brisbane Juniors and Masters Badminton Championships is available from the Events Calendar Section.
The Brisbane Badminton Association was formed in 1949. During the past 49 years the Association has acted as coordinator of Brisbane badminton activities such as fixtures, tournaments and coaching. The Brisbane Badminton Association Inc. is the largest association in the state. The Association also actively promotes the sport through advertising and shopping centre displays.

BBA Inc seeks to encourage people of all ages to participate and enjoy the game of badminton . It seeks to maximise the memberships of the affiliated clubs and to provide them with the necessary support. It seeks to explore opportunities for the formation of new clubs to further expand the player base in the Brisbane region.
To encourage and organise fixtures and tournaments in Brisbane
The Association organises both junior and senior fixtures. Senior fixtures are held during the cooler months of the year from approximately March to August and all clubs encouraged to enter teams in this competition.
The largest Open Tournament in Queensland, The City of Brisbane Badminton Championships, are held each year and attract the best players from around the State. In recent times highly ranked interstate players, including Australian representatives, have competed at this event for National Grand Prix ranking points.
In 1996 the inaugural Brisbane Junior Championships were held and it is planned that this tournament will become a regular event on the tournament calendar.
Every year the Association also conducts a Brisbane Restricted Tournament and the number of participants in this event is equivalent in size to other regional open tournaments.
Junior fixtures traditionally operates during school terms 1, 2 and 3. A new fixture competition is commenced each term. Juniors are encouraged to participate and nomination forms for junior fixtures are circulated to all affiliated clubs.
Encourage participation of Brisbane players and officials at local, intra-state, national and international events
The Brisbane Badminton Association competes each year in the State League Competition. This is a teams competition between teams representing their respective association/club throughout the state. For the past four years, the Brisbane Badminton Association has successfully defended the Johnny Fern, Ross Hedge and Brabazon trophies when contested.
The Brisbane Badminton Association Inc. also provides the necessary equipment, facilities and environment for players to improve their performance and provide top level coaches for all representative players.
The Association is also committed to the development and qualification of coaches and court officials and provides regular training courses and modern coaching material.
To administer and promote the playing of badminton in a fair and equitable manner.
The Association always encourages sportsmanship and ethical behaviour amongst its players. It requires that all players be treated fairly and equitably and upholds legislation relating to the Anti-Discrimination Act.
Encourage and support the development of current and new clubs within the Brisbane area.
The Association provides financial assistance in the setting up of new clubs in the Brisbane region by providing advice and support to all new and affiliated clubs on technical matters and promotional support. Discounted goods and merchandise is also offered to members.
Foster the development of badminton at both junior and senior levels
The Brisbane Badminton Association encourages clubs to implement junior coaching and social activities. It encourages clubs to enter teams and to participate in junior and senior fixture competitions. It provides short coaching sessions on a user pays basis and conducts development camps for junior players.
To establish a badminton headquarters for the Brisbane Region
Through the Complex 2000 Project sub-committee, the Brisbane Badminton Association raises funds to develop a Badminton Stadium and a Headquarters for the sport in the Brisbane region.
